Graco MetroLite – In Review
February 24, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
When shopping for strollers you’ll typically find that you have to make trade-offs. Trade-offs such as luxurious seats versus cost, large wheels for a comfortable ride versus compactness & ease of transport, and you’ll typically find that you have to give up general features when you buy a lightweight stroller.
When I tested the Graco MetroLite I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn’t have to make too many of these trade-offs. The Metrolite is indeed a ‘light’ umbrella-like portable stroller – but it comes with features that you’d normally have to give up to obtain minimal weight. The MetroLite weighs 17 pounds and has a surprisingly compact form factor, it’s easy to fold, transport, store and carry. What’s more is MetroLite’s ability to accommodate infant car seats – my research tells me that this functionality is rarely found in lightweight strollers.
The features that come standard with the MetroLite stroller, features that you’d typically find in standard-sized strollers are:
* Drop-down, easy access, large, 10 pound capacity, storage basket
* Infant car seat compatibility
* Rubber, never flat, tires
* Suspension system
* Height adjustable padded handles
* One-hand easy fold
* Sturdy all-aluminum frame
* Pivot child tray
When you look at this feature list you might be thinking “so what?” Why are these features so special? Remember folks, this is a lightweight, super compact umbrella stroller – you’d normally have to give up a lot, if not all, of these features to obtain a light / portable form factor.
Stroller Benefits
* Easy to fold, store, and transport
* Comfortable ride
* Easy to maneuver
* Easy for parents with varying heights to push this stroller
* Easy to carry baby gear
* Great Value – the MetroLite is ideal for children in infant seats and for children up to 40 pounds.
Who’s using this stroller?
Parents who bought the MetroLite for day trips and travel, parents who found that this is the product they’ve migrated to long after their trip is over.
What’s working well?
The light weight size and the maneuverability makes it easy for parents to stroll. And the Graco MetroLite is a great value – parents can use the MetroLite for infants and they can keep using it for years – for children up to 40 pounds.
What’s ‘not’ working well?
The MetroLite could use a parent’s pouch to hold keys, a wallet, a cell phone, etc. Some parents reported that the MetroLite seat is hard to clean… a removable, washable seat cover would be a perfect addition to MetroLite’s generous feature list. Some parents who reviewed the MetroLite did not like the size of the stroller’s canopy… they wanted a more substantial canopy with UV protection.
Why buy the MetroLite?
The MetroLite stroller is a great value. It has standard stroller functionality but it’s an affordable umbrella / travel stroller – you should buy this stroller is you’re looking for a great deal & good value. You should buy the MetroLite if you need a stroller that’s easy to fold up and carry, transport and / or store. And, finally, you should buy this stroller if your child is still in an infant car seat.
Why should you ‘not’ buy the MetroLite?
You should consider another rig if you are looking for a stroller with a reclining seat. You should look for another stroller if you need a removable (washable) seat cover. And, finally, you should look for a different product if you need a stroller with a big canopy and a larger under-seat storage basket.
Other Strollers to Consider
Maclaren Volo – The Volo is a sturdy umbrella buggy that’s built by a top-notch stroller manufacturer. One key feature that the Volo stroller offers is a reclining seat.
Maclaren Techno XLR – The Techno XLR offers lots of great features – especially for a lightweight stroller. The Techno stroller is compatible with a wide variety of infant car seats.
Joovy Kooper – The Joovy Kooper is a lightweight umbrella stroller. Joovy builds high quality, innovative, products.

Graco Snugrider Infant Car Seat Carrier
February 20, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
A friend of mine and his wife had a baby last month – they are new parents and they’re really excited. Their son was born via cesarean section and my friend was concerned that his wife was getting a bit house-bound. You see, my friend’s wife is not allowed to lift anything heavy and the brand new Peg Perego stroller they received from his in-laws is fantastic but it’s too heavy for his wife to lift & maneuver… and using a lightweight umbrella stroller was out of the question because most umbrella strollers don’t accommodate infant car seats.
I had been researching the latest strollers and I told him about the ultra-light SnugRider Infant carrier from Graco. His wife could indeed lift this stroller, she could place and lock their infant car seat into the carrier and she could finally take long strolls and run errands. As my seven year old daughter would say “Another idea emergency solved”.
The SnugRider has a lightweight frame that weighs 12 pounds. The main idea behind this stroller was to get rid of the extra weight and bulk that accompanies regular strollers. The SnugRider exclusively carries infant car seats. More specifically, it carries the Graco SnugRide and the Graco Infant SafeSeat.
The SnugRider stroller allows you to quickly and easily transfer your child from your car to the carrier and visa versa. The SnugRider stroller is ideal for new mothers who can’t lift heavy weights and who don’t want to become house-bound.
Here’s how it works – take the folded SnugRider out of your car, for example (the stroller is quite compact and can be easily transported), you can easily unfold the SnugRider and you can easily place the infant seat into the carrier. The seat is secured in three different locations so your baby is safe and secure. The stroller can be easily folded for transport or for storage.
Features
- Easy fold
- Compact form factor
- Lightweight
- Extra large mesh storage basket
- Highly maneuverable
- Adjustable height handles
- 2 cup holders
Benefits
- Parents can easily lift and carry the SnugRider stroller
- The SnugRider can be easily transported and stored
- Parents can easily transfer their child, in his or her infant car seat, to and from the SnugRider stroller without disturbing their child.
- Parents can store diaper bags, purses and / or groceries in the large storage basket
- Mothers can get out of the house to run errands or to get some fresh air.
- Parents can easily maneuver the SnugRider stroller.
Who’s using the SnugRider?
- New mothers who need a stroller that accommodates infant car seats
- New mothers, more specifically, mothers who’ve had a cesarean section, who need an infant car seat carrier that weighs less than thirteen pounds.
- Parents who have strollers or umbrella strollers – that can’t accommodate infant seats.
What’s working well?
- Easy fold and transport
- Attaching the infant car seat into the stroller frame
- Strolling in general – the maneuverability is great.
What’s not working well?
- Parents who have reviewed the SnugRider stroller suggest that the storage basket could be larger
- The stroller could use a handlebar mounted storage pouch
- Parents also reported that the cup holders could be larger to accommodate different sized water bottles
- This infant car seat carrier from Graco would be fantastic if it was compatible with a wide variety of infant car seats – not just Graco infant car seats.
Why to buy the SnugRider?
- You should buy this stroller if you already have a stroller or an umbrella stroller that doesn’t accommodate infant car seats.
- You should buy this stroller if you or your wife (I hope that dad’s are reading these reviews too) have lifting (weight) restrictions and can’t mange a full size stroller.
Why to ‘not’ buy the SnugRiger?
- When your child grows out of their infant car seat… the SnugRider stroller goes into storage or gets placed in the ‘for sale’ classified ads.
Other Products to consider
- Maclaren Techno XLR stroller – Is (quite) pricy at $350… but you should consider this stroller if you are looking for a full-featured lightweight stroller (11.5 pounds) that is compatible with a wide variety of infant car seats.
- Graco Metrolite stroller – if you want an umbrella stroller with an accessible storage basket. The Graco Metrolite stroller has a ‘lower & load’ storage basket the gives you access to your gear without disturbing your child.
- Maclaren Techno XT stroller – if you are looking for a full-featured lightweight stroller that’s built to last.
RecommendationThe Graco SnugRider infant car seat carrier / stroller is a great idea. An infant car seat carrier for less than $70 will let you stroll without having lift heavy weights. If you are prepared to spend a lot more money… Take a good look at the Maclaren Techno XLR. We endorse both of these products – they are both great options for new mothers.
Reasons to Choose a Graco Stroller

Graco strollers are the choice of many parents looking for functionality and comfort at a great price. Available in a wide selection of colors and styles, Graco strollers will suit almost any child (note: Graco strollers also accommodate Graco infant car seats). Of course, choosing one among the many kinds of strollers can be a challenge, so we’ve compiled a list of the top Graco strollers, and what makes them so popular.
Compact strollers
Mosaic and Mosaic LX Graco strollers — space-saving 3-D collapse allows you to transport without taking up all your vehicle’s storage. Like other strollers, the seat reclines in several positions, and there are bonus Graco strollers features like removable pillow, padded armrest, 3- or 5-point harness, and ample basket storage. Partial proceeds from limited edition Mosaic ‘Be Fruitful’ Graco strollers benefit a pediatric AIDS foundation. The LX model features sportier styling.
SnugRider strollers – at only 12.5 pounds this is one of the most portable Graco strollers. SnugRider strollers act as a frame to add wheels, handle and basket storage to the SnugRider and Infant SafeSeat.
MetroLite Series strollers – all-rubber wheels provide a smooth ride without fear of flats. Super comfort, and extra-large storage basket makes this a top strollers pick. MetroLite Graco strollers weigh between 16-19 pounds.
Ipo series – billed as a toddler stroller, these affordable and sporty toddler strollers are recommended for kids under 50 pounds, about ten pounds more than most other Graco strollers.
Full-size strollers
Quattro Tour series strollers – the QT Deluxe is one of the most popular Graco strollers. Loaded with features like 4-position seat, 180-degree adjustable canopy, and super-comfy ride for children up to 50 pounds. Be aware though, at more than 28 pounds, these Quattro Tour Graco strollers can be a handful!
LiteRider strollers – very affordable, but with fewer features than other Graco strollers. The LiteRider is a breeze to lift and transport at only 17 pounds.
Double strollers
The DuoGlider, DuoRider and Quattro Tour Duo strollers accommodate two children. Check out [http://www.gracobaby.com/products/subcategory.asp?No=0&N=44%2B54&act=A20] to compare the features of inline and side-by-side double Graco strollers.
Graco strollers and accessories are available internationally at major retailers, or can be purchased online.
